The State of Marriage

If you have been watching the headlines over the last few years, even within the last few months and weeks, you will have noticed an incredibly, almost fierce pursuit of affirming homosexuality and same-sex marriage.  This pursuit is seen among leaders within the Christian community who have either endorsed same-sex marriage, wavered on their stance or simply remains silent.  It is also seen in the government among politicians, governors, senators, congress men and women and even our current President, who has publicly endorsed same-sex marriage.  The fight has even found its way to the Supreme Court with two current historic cases at hand.  The first issue is whether the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) violates equal protection guarantees in the Fifth Amendment’s Due Process Clause.  The second issue involves Proposition 8, a California ballot proposition and state constitutional amendment that passed in November 2008 state elections which provided that “ only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California”.   The U.S. Supreme court must now decide whether or not the Constitution’s 14th Amendment guarantee of “equal protection” prevents states from defining marriage as only between one man and one woman.

No individual or government office has the right to redefine marriage.  The God of the Bible created and ordained the family as the basic, fundamental, building block of human society and civilization.  According to Genesis 2, the creation of Eve from Adam’s rib was the final act of God’s creation that was the finest of all His creation.  Uniting the two as husband and wife surpassed everything He had created and with this He established the family unit.   It is affirmed in Genesis 2:24, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh”.

As our society continues its quest to eliminate the family, it is important that Christians understand there is only one way we should think about homosexuality and marriage and that is biblically and we must never compromise what the Bible says .  Our allegiance belongs to the Lord and to the upholding of His righteousness standards that are found in the Bible.   It is my prayer that Christians will resolve to remain on the Lord’s side and affirm marriage between one man and one woman as the only standard.  Let us continue to pray that the will of the people continue to be upheld.
